Smart Care · Independent living / ILLUSTRATIVE PROJECT

Their home. Their independence. Your connection.

You cannot always be nearby. Your parent still wants home to feel like their own.

THE STARTING POINT

Start with everyday life.
Then the design.

Imagine a parent who enjoys living independently while their adult child works away or remotely. Heating menus and getting to the door can interrupt the day. The aim would be to make those moments easier, with the parent choosing what changes and what stays familiar.

01 / INFORMED CONSULTATION

Before we suggest a system,
we would ask…

  • Which tasks would they most like to make easier?
  • Which controls already feel comfortable, and what would help them feel confident trying something new?
  • Would larger buttons, clearer labels, easier reach or a different explanation help?
  • What budget feels comfortable, and would they like anyone else to have access?

This is a conversation about comfort and confidence, not a test of the person. We also check that the project has the technical expertise it needs.

02 / REAL CHOICES

Different routes.
The right fit for you.

We would compare benefits, limitations and costs together. A more complex system is only worthwhile if it serves the people using it.

Begin with familiar controls

Simpler heating controls, accessible switches or answering the door from a chair could address the main frustration. Existing equipment would be checked first.

What to weigh upThis can start without monitoring. An app would only be useful if the parent wants to use one.

Consider sharing only where wanted

A door sensor, video doorbell or selected notifications could be explored for an agreed security purpose. The parent chooses whether to include them, who can see information and who may control anything.

What to weigh upAlerts depend on equipment and connectivity. Agree who would respond and what to do when a notification is missed.

03–04 / THE AGREED PROPOSAL

Know what is included.
Know what happens next.

After assessment, we turn the preferred option into a design and written proposal. Your priorities set the budget; the specification sets the price and programme.

  • A written design would identify the chosen rooms, controls and permissions, what works without the internet, and any specialist assessment needed. Cameras or wider family access would not be assumed. Account security, update support and any camera view or recording would be explained before agreement.
  • Before commitment, the quote would explain equipment, installation, any subscriptions and exclusions. Visits, responsibilities and timing would be agreed around the household and confirmed availability.

Equipment, labour, subscriptions, tax treatment, payment stages, exclusions and any optional support should be clear. No sample price or installation date is promised by this example.

05–06 / INSTALL, COMMISSION & HAND OVER

Working is good.
Comfortable using it is better.

We would test together

  • Installation would follow the agreed design. We would test everyday functions, manual alternatives, notifications where included, and what happens when connectivity is interrupted. A physical smart button can still depend on a hub or power: we would explain and test the actual fallback without interrupting essential care equipment.

You would leave with

  • The parent would try the controls at their own pace, with explanations in a format that suits them.
  • Practise the tasks that mattered in the first conversation.
  • Check who has access and demonstrate how to change it.
  • Leave clear instructions and record anything still needing attention.

07 / AFTER THE HANDOVER

Support that fits.
On agreed terms.

A follow-up explanation or help adjusting settings could be agreed separately. Ongoing support, availability and cost would be defined rather than assumed.

Any optional package has its own price, scope, hours, response targets and exclusions. You choose whether to add it; remote access requires your agreement.
